A useful fit for

A household checking an exact earlier-model unit that wants a seven-quart programmable slow cooker plus separate in-base browning, roasting and steaming functions.

The main tradeoff

The exact page labels the model discontinued and showed Out of Stock. The removable nonstick pot is not for stovetop or oven use; the exact appliance weight, outside dimensions and lid-open clearance are not published. The product page and linked series manual disagree about the Roast temperature maximum, so an essential roast-temperature requirement above the confirmed minimum needs model-specific clarification.

Your needs, this model

Does it fit your priorities?

Do you require an in-base Roast function as well as slow cooking?

Yes. The exact MSC-800NAS page lists Roast and the linked series booklet describes its separate rack-based Roast program for up to six hours. Their published maximum temperature differs, so no exact upper limit is guaranteed here.

Would you brown or sear ingredients in the appliance before slow cooking or roasting?

The supplied nonstick cast-aluminum pot browns in the base from 250°F to 500°F according to the booklet; the manual warns against leaving it at 500°F for over an hour and advises nonstick utensils.

Explore this need in the finder →
Do you need a separate Steam cycle and reversible rack in the same appliance?

Steam is a distinct up-to-90-minute cycle using the rack in steam position over about one quart of liquid. It is not simultaneous with slow cooking, and about one quart is an instruction, not a published vessel maximum.

Explore this need in the finder →
Does the nominal seven-quart pot meet your required batch capacity?

The manufacturer lists seven quarts, which meets a seven-quart minimum but not a higher one. A nominal rating does not say how many servings a recipe makes.

Explore this need in the finder →
Do you need a cooker whose exact Roast maximum is published consistently?

The exact product page says 400°F and the linked manual says 450°F, so this unresolved conflict cannot satisfy a requirement for a verified upper limit.

Explore this need in the finder →
Is the removable cooking pot itself required to be oven-safe?

No. The instructions say to cook only in the supplied pot or containers on its rack and do not recommend stovetop or oven use of that pot; Roast is an in-base function.

Explore this need in the finder →
Is a published appliance weight essential for moving it between storage and counter?

The exact page and linked booklet do not publish weight. An essential weight cap therefore cannot be confirmed for this model.

The Cuisinart Cook Central MSC-800NAS is a discontinued seven-quart slow cooker and multicooker with four selectable routines: Slow Cook, Roast, Brown/Sauté and Steam. Its programs share one heating base; they are separate cycles rather than simultaneous cooking zones.

What changes when a recipe starts with browning?

Brown/Sauté is done in the supplied nonstick cast-aluminum pot while it sits in the Cook Central base. The instruction booklet gives an adjustable range of 250°F to 500°F, with 350°F as its default. After preheating, add ingredients without crowding the pot. The timer, if used, begins after the selected temperature is reached. The unit can switch directly from browning to Slow Cook or Roast without an additional start command, so a recipe can move from searing to a longer covered stage without transferring the food to another cooking vessel.

That does not make the removable pot a stovetop or oven pan. Cuisinart's booklet says to cook only in the supplied pot and advises against using it on a stove or in an oven. The Roast setting is an in-base appliance function; it is not permission to move the pot into a conventional oven. The manual also cautions not to leave the base at 500°F for more than an hour because prolonged heat may harm the nonstick coating or overheat the unit.

The Roast program has a published temperature disagreement

Roast is the extra function that separates this model from the three-in-one MSC-600NAS. The manual places the reversible rack in its roast position and describes timed roasting for up to six hours, with the heater switching off when the cycle ends. But the two official sources do not agree on the available temperature range: the MSC-800NAS product page lists 250°F to 400°F, while the linked MSC-800 Series booklet says 250°F to 450°F. The exact controls plainly include Roast, but I would not use either published maximum as settled until the appliance's own revision or support documentation confirms it. If a recipe or required roast temperature depends on the disputed upper limit, this is not a good model to choose from specifications alone.

The supplied rack is reversible for roasting and steaming, so one accessory serves two different setups. Roasting uses the rack to lift food above the pot bottom; steaming uses the raised position over liquid. Do not interpret the listed programs as proof of cooking multiple dishes at once.

Slow cooking, steam and cleanup

Slow Cook offers High, Low, Simmer or Warm, with a set time up to 24 hours. At the end of a timed High, Low or Simmer cycle, the appliance automatically changes to Keep Warm for eight hours, then turns the heater off. Warm can also be selected for already-cooked food. No delayed-start routine is documented in the linked booklet; the user selects a mode and starts it rather than setting a future clock time.

Steam is another distinct cycle, not a setting that runs alongside slow cooking. The manual calls for about one quart of water or other liquid, the rack in the steam position and a covered pot. Steam temperature is fixed and the timer can be set up to 90 minutes. Its instructions say to add food after preheating in the usual case; a boil-dry protection feature shuts the heater off if the liquid runs out. Use care when lifting the lid and handling the hot rack.

The manufacturer says the removable pot and glass lid are dishwasher-safe, and the booklet says all removable parts can be washed there. The base must not be immersed; unplug it, let it cool and wipe the housing instead. The cast-aluminum pot is nonstick, so the manual calls for nonstick utensils rather than metal ones. The material does not establish how durable a used coating will be, and this assessment has no hands-on wear testing.

Capacity and fit are separate questions

Seven quarts is the listed pot capacity, not a promise about servings or usable food volume. It favors a larger batch than the six-quart MSC-600NAS, but may be awkward if your cabinet, counter or household portions are smaller. The exact product page and linked booklet do not publish the appliance's outside dimensions, weight or open-lid clearance. Measure the shelf and counter you plan to use; an attractive product image cannot answer those fit questions.

The page lists a three-year limited warranty, labels the model discontinued and showed Out of Stock on October 23, 2026. That dated manufacturer state is not reseller inventory or proof about a used unit. Cuisinart separately lists the unsuffixed MSC-800; its exact page publishes 15.5 × 19 × 11-inch body dimensions and Roast to 450°F, while this NAS page lists a 400°F maximum. The MSC-800 review explains its separate code-specific evidence, including why its “Weight: 14.13” field is not treated as pounds. Check the appliance label before looking up parts or relying on either code's Roast limit.

Who should look for the MSC-800NAS?

This earlier model is worth comparing when a verified MSC-800NAS listing, seven-quart capacity, in-base browning, Roast and separate Steam fit your routine. It is a poor fit if you need a settled Roast maximum, a stove-safe insert, confirmed dimensions, transport hardware or current stock.

The six-quart MSC-600NAS also browns and steams but lacks Roast. Compare both Cook Central sizes; for simpler timed slow cooking, consider the Crock-Pot SCCPVF710-PL-WM-BR. Use the finder to make Roast, browning, steam, capacity or earlier-model status essential only when it changes your plan.
