Your needs, this model
Does it fit your priorities?
Is a Medium setting in Slow Cook essential?
Yes. The exact R17 manual defaults to Medium and explicitly lists Low, Medium and High for this V3 program.
Explore this need in the finder →Is a 24-hour selectable Slow Cook maximum enough?
Yes. The V3 manual allows 30 minutes through 24 hours; requests above 24 hours are outside this exact control range.
Explore this need in the finder →Are step-by-step recipe instructions on the cooker display essential?
Not established for this V3. It documents a progress bar and 15 one-touch programs, which is not the same as the V4 message prompts.
Explore this need in the finder →Can you control this exact V3 cooker through a phone app?
Not confirmed in the exact page or linked manual; a recipe-app image is not enough to qualify it.
Explore this need in the finder →The Instant Pot DUO Plus V3 6QT (112-0156-01) is not simply the newer WhisperQuiet Duo Plus with a different name. It is a distinct six-quart configuration with its own manual and its own slow-cook controls. The R17 U.S. instructions describe one Slow Cook Smart Program with Low, Medium and High settings, a six-hour Medium default and a 30-minute-to-24-hour timer range. That Medium setting is the clearest reason to consider this V3 when a recipe or household routine calls for a middle temperature instead of only Low or High.

A single slow-cook program with selectable heat
For this model, the slow-cook setting starts at six hours on Medium. The manual allows an adjustment from 30 minutes through 24 hours and a choice of Low, Medium or High. It also says “Less” is commonly used for low-and-slow, all-day cooking and should be set to at least 10 hours for best results. That is the manufacturer’s specific guidance; it is not a general recipe rule for every food or a result we measured. Automatic Keep Warm is on after Slow Cook by default, and a Delay Start can be selected for this program. The general delay range is 10 minutes to 24 hours, but it postpones the beginning; it does not schedule a ready-at meal time.
The program does not use pressure. Still, this is a pressure-capable appliance with a lid and sealing system, not an open glass-lid crock. The manual shows the lid placed and locked for Slow Cook. Use the exact instructions for closing, removing and washing those parts. Do not transfer a pressure-mode procedure or a setting from the newer WhisperQuiet V4 manual simply because both cookers say Duo Plus.
One-touch program choices are not the same as step-by-step prompts
The maker advertises 15 one-touch programs for the V3. Its display shows cooking time, temperature and pressure information and a progress bar. The exact V3 page also includes an image of the separate Instant Connect recipe app, but the maker does not establish app-based starting, monitoring or adjustment of the 112-0156-01 cooker. Nor do its exact product page and manual document the message-bar recipe coaching offered on the V4 WhisperQuiet pages. If on-appliance, step-by-step prompts are essential, check the V4 6QT or 8QT instead; if remote control matters, require explicit confirmation for the exact SKU rather than counting a phone recipe app as appliance connectivity.
Pressure Cook, Slow Cook, Sauté, Steam, Sous Vide, Rice, Yogurt and other listed presets are separate routines. In-base Sauté can brown in the cooking pot before you start a different program. Sous Vide has its own bag, water-bath and temperature directions; it is not another Slow Cook setting. The maker lists a stainless-steel, anti-spin pot with a tri-ply bottom and calls the inner pot and lid dishwasher-safe. Stainless steel is not a nonstick coating, and no external-burner or oven approval for the loose pot is established by the exact page or the manual.
Fit and comparison notes
The exact page identifies a six-quart cooker rated at 1,000 watts, 120 volts and 60 Hz, with a one-year limited warranty. Its listed closed dimensions are 12.2 inches long, 13.4 wide and 12.9 high; weight and usable lid-opening clearance are not published. It includes a stainless steam rack and two extra sealing rings. The general quart rating is not a reliable serving count, so size the cooking vessel to the meals you actually make. Its dimensions are similar in scale to the six-quart V4, but the label and controls differ enough that a shared name is not a basis for assuming the same interface.
Choose this V3 if Medium heat, a clear progress bar, a digital countdown and 15 one-touch program options fit your routine, and a 24-hour maximum is sufficient. Choose the WhisperQuiet Duo Plus 6QT if its on-cooker guided messages, 25 recipe presets, Low/High-only slow-cook choices and 99-hour-30-minute selectable ceiling suit you better. The V4 timer’s ceiling is not cooking advice; the V3’s shorter maximum does not mean every real recipe needs a timer near the limit. A dedicated slow cooker is likely the less complicated route if you will not use pressure cooking, Sauté or the other modes. Neither exact Duo Plus page confirms that the removable pot itself is safe directly on a stove, and neither should be selected for app control without clearer model-specific evidence.
Check the manufacturer’s exact 112-0156-01 V3 page and the linked R17 U.S. manual before treating a different V3-family SKU as the same configuration.
