Your needs, this model
Does it fit your priorities?
Is same-pot in-unit browning before slow cooking essential?
Exact MSC-600 documents Brown/Sauté to 400°F and a direct handoff to Slow Cook; this does not mean the pot is a stovetop pan.
Explore this need in the finder →Is a separate Steam program and included rack useful?
The exact listing documents Steam up to 90 minutes and a supplied rack; it is a separate mode, not a second cooking zone.
Explore this need in the finder →Is pressure cooking essential?
No pressure program is documented for exact MSC-600.
Explore this need in the finder →Does a six-quart nominal pot and closed-body size fit your counter?
The exact page lists six quarts and closed dimensions of 18 by 11 by 10.5 inches. Open-lid clearance is not reported.
Explore this need in the finder →The Cuisinart MSC-600 Cook Central is a six-quart, three-function multicooker for someone who wants a slow-cook program plus browning and steaming in the same countertop base. It is more versatile at the beginning of a recipe than a basic ceramic cooker, but it is still a one-pot appliance with separate modes, not a pressure cooker or a set of independently controlled cooking zones. This review is for the exact code MSC-600; a similar-looking Cuisinart MSC-600NAS is a separately listed code, and no suffix-equivalence is assumed here.

Three modes cover distinct parts of a meal
The exact manufacturer page identifies Slow Cook at High, Low, Simmer or Warm for up to 24 hours, Brown/Sauté up to 400°F, and Steam for up to 90 minutes. Its large LCD shows time and temperature. The page also describes an automatic Keep Warm transition after cooking. The linked 11-page instruction booklet, whose cover prints the series name MSC-6002, clarifies the routine: set a slow-cook temperature and time, start, then the timed cycle moves to Warm for up to eight hours before switching off. The Warm setting is not a recommendation to hold food for that whole period; use the manual's food-handling directions.
Brown/Sauté is the practical reason to compare this model with a simpler slow cooker. The instruction booklet says that after browning, you can switch directly to Slow Cook without starting over. That reduces transfers and keeps browned bits in the cooking pot. It is not the same as an induction-ready insert or permission to use the removable pot on a stovetop; the documents reviewed do not establish outside-base stovetop or oven use. Steam is a separate water-and-rack cycle, not simultaneous slow cooking and not pressure cooking.
Expect a more hands-on start than a single-button preset
The sequence is straightforward but asks you to choose a heat level and duration. High can be useful when you have less time, while Low and Simmer support longer routines. An entered slow-cook duration can run as long as 24 hours, followed by the automatic Warm period. For a long day away, remember that the timed cycle and Warm window are separate: after the Warm interval the appliance turns off. This is a selectable countdown, not a choose-the-meal-finish-time system.
The Brown/Sauté function is also a user-managed step. You select the temperature, brown the ingredients, and then change modes. The manual notes that temperature is reached before the sauté timer countdown starts. Steam likewise uses the supplied rack and its own duration; it does not add capacity to the six-quart removable pot. The exact product page gives a 90-minute maximum for steam. Nothing in those features establishes a pressure-cooking function.
Pot, dimensions and what the listing leaves unknown
The removable six-quart cooking pot is nonstick aluminum and dishwasher-safe, as are the listed removable parts. That differs from a conventional ceramic crock: use the exact manual's cleaning instructions, avoid assuming the pot can move from an external stovetop to the base, and protect the counter when setting down a hot pot. The manufacturer lists closed-body dimensions of 18 by 11 by 10.5 inches. It displays “12.46” for weight without a unit, so this review does not convert it to pounds. Open-lid clearance is not published.
The included steaming rack is for the separate steam routine. It is not documented as a rack for a smaller bakeware dish, so a shopper who needs that exact use should choose a model whose instructions say so. The glass lid lets you view cooking, but it does not create another independently set vessel. Cleaning a removable coated pot and lid may be convenient; it does not establish independent coating durability or dishwasher performance testing.
Where MSC-600 fits among alternatives
This is a better match than the Cuisinart PSC-650 when same-pot browning and a steam cycle are essential; PSC-650 is a dedicated ceramic slow cooker with a longer timed cycle and a rack for small bakeware instead. A basic CSC-650 uses mechanical dials and an eight-hour ceiling, which is a different control choice. The FRC-800 is a rice-first multicooker whose manual does not provide dedicated High/Low slow-cook levels. Compare exact model codes and linked manuals rather than using the Cook Central name alone.
The exact MSC-600 manufacturer page marked it discontinued and Out Of Stock on the inspection date. That is not a current retailer-stock check, a warranty promise for a used unit, or evidence about the separately coded MSC-600NAS. For an older appliance, verify the MSC-600 label, nonstick pot surface, glass lid, control operation, rack and removable parts. Product claims here describe documented capabilities, not lab-tested performance or personal ownership.
