Your needs, this model
Does it fit your priorities?
Does the SCV800-S-BR shut itself off or change to Warm when a cooking time ends?
No timed cycle is documented for this manual dial model. You choose Low or High, then move the dial to Warm or Off yourself; if automatic completion is essential, compare a documented digital model instead.
Explore this need in the finder →Will its eight-quart pot fit a large batch?
It has a nominal eight-quart removable oval pot and the maker describes it for large meals, but the owner guide says to fill only one-half to three-quarters full. That guideline, rather than the whole nominal volume, should shape the recipe fit you expect.
Explore this need in the finder →Does the plain SCV800-S-BR package include a separate Little Dipper warmer?
No. The SCV800-S-BR page lists the cooker, removable stoneware and glass lid but not a Little Dipper. The related SCV803-S-BR package adds a separate 16-ounce warmer for dips and sauces.
Explore this need in the finder →The SCV800-S-BR is an intentionally plain, large slow cooker: a removable oval eight-quart stoneware insert, a glass lid and a front dial for Off, Low, High and Warm. It is for a kitchen where the cook can decide when to change or stop the setting—not for a schedule that must finish itself. That distinction is the first buying question, ahead of the stainless exterior or the maker’s “10+ people” serving claim.
The dial keeps the routine visible, but does not keep time
There is no confirmed countdown on the SCV800-S-BR. Choose Low or High and handle the finish yourself; Warm is a separate position for food that is already cooked. The family manual distinguishes these Classic Manual controls from its timed One Touch and Digital Countdown instructions. Do not assume a warm transition that appears in a different control section applies to this four-position dial.
This direct control is useful if your recipes already give a time range and you expect to check the pot yourself. It is a poor fit when an unattended cooking deadline or automatic move to Warm is essential. A timer-equipped cooker such as the CPSCRTCLL70-SS Sous Vide model has a different control plan; it adds features and parts, not a timer to this SCV800. The six-quart manual Cook & Carry is also a dial cooker, but adds lid clips and gives up two listed quarts.
Eight quarts is a big pot—use the fill line in the manual, not the label alone
Crock-Pot describes the nominal eight-quart size as serving ten or more people. That is a useful scale cue for large family meals and gatherings, not a guarantee that every roast, whole bird or favorite recipe will fit. The 20EM1 guide instructs users to fill the stoneware between one-half and three-quarters full. The maker’s own fill range means the advertised capacity is not a practical target to fill to the rim. Consider the dimensions of the ingredients and the space to lift a heavy insert before treating the quart number as a meal plan.
The manufacturer lists the stainless SCV800-S-BR at 17.3 inches long by 12.4 wide by 10.5 high and 14 pounds empty. Those are closed-body dimensions; the height needed to lift its lid is not published. During use, the manual calls for six inches of clearance from the wall and on all sides, so plan for a wider working footprint than the cooker’s listed dimensions. A shelf above the counter may also interfere with opening the lid even when the body fits. Measure that open position yourself rather than using 10.5 inches as a lid-up figure.
Finish options are not identical weights
The official manual-model list and separate US product pages identify three plain SCV800 finish codes. They share the same manual cooking routine, but the listed weights differ. Compare the suffix and the image when shopping rather than choosing from a generic “8-quart Crock-Pot” title:
- SCV800-S-BR, Stainless Steel: 14 lb; this is the model assessed here.

- SCV800-BP-BR, Black: 15.6 lb.

- SCV800-RP-BR, Red Polished: 15.6 lb.

All three pages list the same 17.3-by-12.4-by-10.5-inch body and a one-year limited warranty. The plain versions do not include the separate Little Dipper supplied with the related SCV803-S-BR package. None is described as a Cook & Carry model, and the exact images show no lid-locking clips. This is a countertop batch cooker, not the best choice if a secure travel lid is a must.
Stoneware convenience has ceramic limits
The removable pot and glass lid are dishwasher-safe. The 4–8 quart family guide also says the stoneware is ovenproof and microwave-safe, but not safe on a stovetop or under a broiler. It gives no oven-temperature ceiling for these SCV800 models, so a temperature limit should not be borrowed from another slow cooker. The lid does not go into an oven or microwave. Both ceramic parts need gradual temperature changes: do not rinse them cold while hot or pour cold ingredients into a hot insert.
For setup, use a stable, dry, level counter and a trivet or heat-resistant pad under the stoneware when setting it aside. Keep the heating base out of water and unplug before cleaning. These are practical restrictions if you hoped to brown ingredients in the insert or move the pot straight from a hot cook to a cold sink. Brown meat in a separate pan; this cooker does not replace a stovetop casserole.
When another configuration makes more sense
Choose the plain SCV800 when its large manual pot is the fit and you are comfortable controlling the time yourself. If an included small warmer would actually be used for dips or sauces, compare the SCV803-S-BR bundle: it has the same eight-quart manual cooker plus a separate 16-ounce Little Dipper, not an extra chamber inside the main pot. If you need cooking to transfer to Warm automatically, look at a timed model and verify that feature for the exact plan. If you need latches for a potluck trip, choose a model whose product page and manual identify them; the SCV800 is not one.
The deciding tradeoff is straightforward: the SCV800 gives you an oversized manual batch pot and dishwasher-safe removable parts, in exchange for no timed finish, no probe or sous-vide mode, no transport latch and a substantial counter footprint. Match that operating routine to your week before deciding whether its capacity is useful or simply more cooker than you need.
Key details at a glance
| Nominal removable-pot capacity | 8 qt |
|---|---|
| Published appliance weight | 14 lb |
| Published outside dimensions | Manufacturer-listed closed-appliance dimensions: 17.3 in L x 12.4 in W x 10.5 in H. Open-lid height is not published; the 20EM1 guide separately requires six inches clear from the wall and on every side. |
| Sous-vide water-bath mode | No |
| Lid clips for transport | No |
| Manual heat-setting dial | Yes |
| Probe supported in slow-cook mode | No |
| Timed cooking controls | The exact product page identifies a manual cooker and lists High, Low and Warm; the exact family guide describes Classic Manual settings separately from One Touch and Digital Countdown controls. There is no countdown program or automatic timed Warm transition documented for SCV800-S-BR. |
| Removable pot and lid care | Removable oval stoneware and glass lid are dishwasher-safe. The exact 20EM1 family guide says the stoneware is ovenproof and microwave-safe but not stovetop- or broiler-safe; it sets no oven-temperature maximum. The lid is not oven- or microwave-safe. Avoid thermal shock. |
| Warm-setting guidance | Warm is a manually selected setting for food that is already cooked. The four-hour recommendation in the family guide applies to its One Touch/Digital Countdown timed-cycle section; it is not stated as an SCV800 Classic Manual maximum, so a model-specific holding limit is unknown. |
| Separate Little Dipper food warmer included | No |
| Removable pot is oven-safe | Yes |
| Removable pot is stovetop-safe | No |
