Hamilton Beach capacity and controls
Hamilton Beach four-quart slow cookers: dial, timer or travel clips?
Four quarts is a common middle size, but the Hamilton Beach models in this group are not interchangeable. The 33140G/33140V and 33240 use manual dials; the 33443 adds a timer with automatic Warm; the 33249 is a separate earlier travel model with clips; and the 33141 is an earlier manual oval appliance that the manufacturer now marks no longer available. Decide first whether you need simple manual operation, a timed finish or safer carrying hardware, then check the exact model code and space available.
Manual routine: choose by footprint
The 33140G and its documented 33140V code variant are four-quart oval cookers with Off, Low, High and Warm dial positions. Hamilton Beach publishes a 4-pound chicken or two 2-pound roasts as examples and lists 9.2 × 13.9 × 9.2 inches. The 33240 is round with a three-setting dial and Off position; its published dimensions are 10.4 × 12.1 × 9.5 inches, and the exact page gives additional capacity examples including sixteen cups of macaroni and cheese. The older 33141 is another oval manual four-quart reference at 9 × 12.9 × 9.6 inches. That product page says no longer available. Published dimension order is model-specific, so don't rotate the numbers or assume same-size pots occupy the same shelf space.
All manual versions require the cook to manage the finish. Select Low or High, use a separate clock to follow the recipe, and switch to Off or Warm once cooking is complete. Warm is for food already fully cooked, not for reheating or cooking raw ingredients. Their removable stoneware and lids are dishwasher-safe, with manual cautions around the dishwasher Sani cycle, thermal shock and heating the crock empty. Confirm each model's instructions; a similar name or quart figure is not a substitute for the exact manual table.
Timed finish: choose the 33443 only for its real program
The 33443 has a four-quart oval crock and separate Hours and Temp controls. Its exact guide lists Low and High, five durations—2, 4, 6, 8 or 10 hours—and an automatic Warm transition after the selected cooking time. The control lights show time in two-hour increments. Cooking starts directly; there is no delayed start or desired-meal-time schedule. A two-hour set of steps is more constrained than the 33480's 30-minute increments, but it means you do not have to return just to move the dial from cooking to Warm. The manual caps combined cooking and Warm operation at 14 hours, so this is not a long-cycle appliance. If exact half-hour selection or a longer window is essential, compare another model's actual manual rather than assuming all Hamilton Beach programmable cookers share controls.
Travel clips are a separate capability
The 33249's Stay or Go name is backed by exact-page descriptions and its family manual: two transport clips secure the lid for moving, and full-grip handles help carry the base. The clips must not be locked while the cooker is operating; they help with upright travel but are not a promise against every spill or tip. It uses the manual dial, not a timed Warm program, and its exact page says no longer available. That makes it useful for identifying an existing appliance or comparing feature tradeoffs, not a current buy recommendation. Do not assume the 33443 also has clips—the exact page does not advertise them—and do not treat a separately listed accessory latch as included hardware.
Model numbers and the manual bridge
Hamilton Beach's 33140G and 33141 pages currently link Use & Care number 840290407, but that PDF's identifying information and model table refer to another group (33557/SC10). The separately archived 840290405 guide is the applicable bridge: its table lists base code 33140 in SC06 and base code 33141 in SC25, and explains that suffix letters may follow the listed codes. It also lists 33245/33249 in SC06. The 33240 page links the exact 840373302 guide, which names 33240 in SC08. The 33443 page links 840368900, whose table explicitly lists 33443 in SC73. This is why a single “four-quart” manual cannot safely be assumed for every product on a marketplace page.
A quick choice path
- Want a basic oval manual cooker? Compare 33140G/33140V against the older 33141 by exact dimensions and code.
- Want a round footprint and simple manual dial? Compare the 33240's published dimensions and capacity examples.
- Need automatic Warm after a programmed cycle? The 33443 documents that feature, but only offers two-hour time choices and a 14-hour combined limit.
- Need clips for carrying a hot pot? The earlier 33249 documents them; do not lock them during cooking, and don't treat its marketing as a tip-proof guarantee.
Across the group, no page supplies empty weight or open-lid clearance for every model. If lifting weight or cabinet clearance is non-negotiable, verify the exact appliance before purchase. Product pages showed out-of-stock or no-longer-available states for several models on the inspection date; that is only a dated snapshot. The categories and reviews remain useful for model identification and tradeoffs, not as current stock promises or independent cooking tests. See the individual reviews for 33140G, 33240, 33443, 33141 and 33249.
